Yahoo! has released a new video search engine. The advanced search section allows you to choose the media type, size and internet domain to search. A simple search for "band" returns more than 20,000 video clips in a range of sizes and shows 20 thumbnails to a page. The search is fast and the page layout is uncluttered.
Yahoo! is supporting Media RSS enclosures and has a link for video content publishers to submit videos. The Media RSS module uses meta-data and provides a way for search engines to discover and index video content. The module supports text descriptions, thumbnails and also allows content providers ways to control the playback environment rather than just a link to the media file. This means detailed information is available alongside the content which sounds like a good addition to RSS enclosures. I’ve added a link in the Media Search Engines module.
