UBU Web Avant-Garde Sound Recordings

UBU Web is an avant-garde repository that functions as a distribution centre for hard-to-find, out-of-print and obscure materials. The archives house a wealth of fascinating artistic creations from concrete poetry to sound art. Here’s some of the unusual recordings you can find there.

  • Artsounds a rare out-of-print double LP from 1985 of artists’ recordings tracks by Larry Rivers, Marcel Duchamp, Connie Beckley, Cotten/Prince, Minneko Grimmer, Philemona Williamson, Jeff Gordon, Tony McAulay, Jonathan Borofsky, Les Levine, Burton Van Deusen, Tom Wesslemann, Marcy Brafman, Philip Johnson, John Burgee, Italo Scanga, Thomas Lanigan-Schmidt, Bob Gruen, Yura Adams, and Jennifer Bartlett
  • Outsiders is a section for Outsider music, art and literature. One of the main features is the 365 Days Project in which an MP3 a day was released to the public consisting of outsider, odd-ball and novelty recordings. Each MP3 selection is fully documented with pictures and text.
The Sounds section is an extensive alphabetically indexed archive designed to encompass all types of sound art, historical and contemporary. There’s much to discover including recordings of William S Burroughs, Salvador Dali, John Lennon and Frank Zappa to name just a few.
